Duped

I figured that when I had kids I would never be fooled by them. That lasted three whole months until Addie pulled a fast one on me yesterday. Since we have started letting Addie cry to go to sleep we also try not to hold her for naps very often so that she will get used to sleeping in her bed. Yesterday I put her down for her afternoon nap and she only slept for an hour and a half, usually she sleep two and a half or three hours in the afternoon. I let her cry for a few minutes to see if she would go back to sleep and when she didn't stop crying I went in to check on her, she was acting very hungry so I decided to feed her. She ate like crazy for a couple minutes and then her eyes slowly started getting heavy, the next thing I knew she had only eaten an ounce and was fast asleep in my arms. That tricky little girl found a way to get me to hold her while she took a nap. She was so cute I couldn't resist and let her sleep in my arms but seriously, who gets fooled by a three month old, I felt a little stupid but I'll be ready for it next time!

Finally got a backbone

Trevin and I began practicing some sad but timely and desperately needed tough love this week. Addie had a two week streak in June where she was an amazing sleeper and would always go down after we rocked her to sleep and sleep all night only waking up once to eat, she took good naps and gave Trev and I some time together. Well the day we got back from our vacation to Bear Lake she decided that sleeping was no longer part of the game plan. After a few weeks of long days and longer nights of rocking and pacing I decided this was not good for our family. Friday night she woke up 4 times in a matter of 5 or 6 hours. Saturday I started researching and reading about people who let their babies cry themselves to sleep. At first I felt like a terrible mom even thinking of doing that to Addie but one lady's post in a forum I was reading put a completely different perspective on things. She said you can't be a good mom or wife if you are constantly sleep deprived and grouchy because your child isn't sleeping. I really had been a grouchy little bugger the last few weeks because of all this. So I called the doctors office and talked to a nurse about the whole crying it out thing and if it was safe for our daughter and what I should do. I got it all worked out and Saturday night we began the journey. Night 1: 45 long and sad minutes of crying followed by nine straight hours of sleep. Night 2: 10 minutes of crying followed by 7 hours of sleep, waking up to eat and another 3 hours of sleep. Night 3: 7 minutes of crying..... you get the idea. She also takes naps during the day too. I am regaining sanity and started to enjoy this whole mommy thing a lot more. Hearing Addie cry for 45 minutes left me in tears too but it has been one of the best parenting choices we have made so far.

Chewing is my new favorite hobby

Addie's new favorite past time is putting anything and everything in her mouth. I'm pretty sure she would eat a cheeseburger if we gave it to her. Don't worry I won't let Trevin do it. Anyways just thought these pictures were cute, we caught her in the act a few times.

3 Month Diva

That's right, Addie is officially a diva. And by diva I mean she has her preferences, knows what she likes and won't have things any other way....
  • Baths--no way Addie prefers showers and will scream if you even think about putting her in a bath tub with water.
  • Books--Five little monkeys and the Foot book are her favorites, well actually the only ones she will pay attention to.
  • Sleeping--she can't sleep without a certain pink striped blanket that we swaddle her in and must have SEVERAL blankets padding her bed with the furry white one on top
  • Car seat--only an acceptable place to sit if it is moving, otherwise forget it
  • Playing-- constant attention is demanded, if no one is looking at her or talking to her she will let you know about it.
You get the idea. I can't believe it has been three months. Sometimes it feels like time is flying by, there is no way I had a baby three months ago but then other times it feels like its been forever. The day she was born and the few weeks after seem like a total blur now. Now I understand why people have multiple children, seriously you forget everything about pregnancy and labor and all the pain and misery that came with it; maybe that's what husbands are for. Trevin didn't forget and reminds me of it. We love our little girl and are so glad to have her here. HAPPY 3 MONTHS ADDIE!!

I seriously can't believe this was her three months ago, they grow so fast!!

Baby Cougar

We had a giftcard to the BYU bookstore so we decided to officially make Addie a Cougar. Here she is in her new BYU shirt. AND since she is 3 months tomorrow we'll call this her 3 month picture too.

Dieting = Cheating

So Trev and I started a diet. Trev says he is getting soft and I always jump at the chance to be a little healthier. It's called the Mayo Clinic diet. It isn't one of those crazy starve yourself and pour magic water on your head kind of diets but its more just being healthy. We can't eat any sugar for two weeks, only fruits and vegetables for snacks, 60 minutes of exercise a day, stuff like that. If you really wanna know more ask me. Anyways today was day 6.....ask me how many times Trevin has cheated or been tempted to cheat, NEVER! Don't even ask about me because I crave Yogurtland daily. Sometimes I say I'm going to "run errands" just so I can go get some frozen yogurt or one of the McDonald's ice cream cones I'm obsessed with. When we started this, Trev and I both assumed I would be better at it since I used to be kind of a health nut and Trev loves his burgers and coke. Turns out he has a little, I mean a lot, more will power than me. So far Trev has lost 6 pounds and I've lost a few too (I'm not really too concerned with poundage I'm more trying to get a little healthier since my pregnant junk food days are over). I'll keep you posted, hopefully I don't waste away

Bear Lake and Life

The last week in June we packed our bags and headed to the Hanks family reunion (Trevin's mom's family) at Bear Lake. Who knew babies needed so much stuff, seriously I felt like we packed our whole house just to go away for the week. Addie modeled her new swimsuit in the kiddie pool and had a great time with her cousin Callin. Don't worry Trev and I were in the pool too but who wants to see pictures of us when you can look at cute little kids.

The trip was so fun and Addie was a champ. We were worried she wouldn't sleep well but she did great. Here is our little diva sleeping on the beach

Now that our trip is over we've had to come back to real life. Addie will be 3 months old next week and we decided it was time for her to sleep in crib. She has had other ideas so far. Her old favorite pastime of sleeping has now produced many tears. As soon as we wrap her up and turn on her music she has a meltdown and knows its time to sleep. Anyone have any ideas for us?? Anyways when she isn't grouchy from lack of sleep or us attempting to get her to sleep she is very happy and likes to smile.

Sorry there isn't more about life, its pretty boring right now unless you want to hear my stats from our intramural softball game last week BUT really that's all I got.
