Thankful

Have you heard the song Thankful by Josh Groban?!? I am in love with it right now.  How perfect for the season huh!  Anyways after listening to it a bunch and with Thanksgiving in a few days I can't but help write a thankful post.

This year has seemed to have a few extra trials compared to other years but  it also seems like I have a few million extra things to be thankful for.  Funny how that works.

I'm so incredibly grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ.  It really has helped me through some tough things this year.  I think back to those six weeks in March and April where I started a new job, living in a new place, taking care of Addie all by myself. Or I think about the beginning of this year when the realization set it in that we wouldn't be going to medical school the following year.  What in the world were we suppose to do? During these times and many others this year I've never felt less alone and more calm.  Its crazy how sometimes you have to close your eyes and just have to take whatever steps Heavenly Father guides you to take and when you get to open your eyes again you have made it to where you are suppose to.

I am grateful for my family.  Have you seen Addie? Pretty much the cutest kid ever.  All it takes is a hug, kiss, smile, cuddle, really anything to melt my heart.  Its crazy how many different things have to go right and perfectly to have a healthy, happy child.  Each child really is a miracle and I thank God every day for blessing us with her as our miracle.  Trevin--where do I even begin?  I've never met another human being so willing to give and do anything and everything for someone else.  I'm not sure why or how I got so lucky but I really hit the jackpot.

My list could go on and on but I think I hit the main ones.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

Cause You Had A Bad Day

Today was one of those days.  You know the kind where you go get blood drawn and end up having to get scrapped off the floor after passing out.  The kind where some random nurse, old enough to be your grandmother, spends 20 minutes lecturing/yelling at you about how crappy of a job you're doing.  The kind where because you are a girl you spend the next ten minutes sitting at your desk crying.  It was one of those days where you really don't feel like cooking and all you want is take-out but you have celiac and it takes more effort to find a place to eat than to just cook yourself.

But even at the end of one of those days there are always things to make you smile.  Here are my favorites right now....

At the pumpkin walk

Haha, I seriously love this picture.  What a funny little girl she is turning into.

My two favorite people on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Ready to go with our purse and wearing Mommy's shoes

My cheesy little Minnie Mouse

And last but not least Trevin made me gluten-free sugar cookies tonight, really he is awesome.  I may or may not have eaten three of them already.  What an awesome stud of a husband to spend his night making me cookies!!

I really do have the best life.  Sorry to make you all jealous.

Long Time Coming

This smart guy.....

Got into school to be one of these....

Trevin got a call on Thursday from Midwestern in Arizona saying that he had been accepted into medical school there.  When Trevin got home from his interview in Iowa and finally told me on Friday (he wanted to tell me in person) I was so excited!! This has been a long time coming.

On our first date Trevin told me he wanted to be a doctor.  On our third date I told him he could stop impressing me and tell me what he really wanted to do.  Well he stuck with the doctor story.  It has sure been a very long rode to get here and I know its an even longer road from here but I really couldn't be more proud of Trev and more excited for what the next four years and beyond hold.

We aren't for sure yet if we will end up at Arizona.  Trevin is suppose to hear back from Texas in a couple weeks and if he gets in there the choice will be super hard between the two.  But here is to becoming a med school wife!

Its All Happening At the Zoo

We went to the Hogle Zoo today!! What a blast, Addie loved seeing all the animals.  We met our friends Trevor, Natalie, and Sydney there.  They are moving in a couple weeks so it was fun to see them one last time before they leave.  Here was our day.....

Almost as big as a monkey!

Even with the dirty look we are happy to be at the zoo

Clapping our hands like a seal

Daddy telling Addie all about seals

By the end Addie and the seal were BFFs

Giraffe with daddy

On the tiger sculptures with Syd.  Getting two kids to look and smile at the same time is impossible

We would have sat on that tiger all day

 Last picture at the zoo

As we left the zoo parking lot......

And finished the trip off with lunch at our most loved place!

It was fun to spend time as our little family today.  Trev was gone a couple days for his interview in Phoenix this week and I've been working a lot so it was great to finally be together and do something fun.  We've been looking forward to things a lot especially with medical school but too often I find myself looking forward instead of just enjoying the moment.  Today I finally stopped, took a look around, and couldn't be more grateful for all that I have.

Curveballs

Life has sure been crazy lately!  We have just been busy living life but none busier than our almost 18 month old.  There really is never a dull moment around here.  Addie is very busy copying everything you say and getting into every possible thing that toddlers shouldn't.  Some of her most popular words and phrases current are, "Mama! Mama! Mama! Mama!" until I rush to her side and give my full attention at which point she babbles something to me and then goes on playing.  "Go Cougars," we start them young around here.  "Snack", "Fish", "Cracker".  We were in the car listening to the radio, dancing, Addie was fist pumping in the back seat and the chorus of the song kept saying "so bad".  I think the song was "Call Me Maybe" but I can't remember.  Anyways after the song was over Addie kept saying so bad over and over.  I guess we better start watching what we say.  As for getting into things that she shouldn't, it is not uncommon to find her up in the windowsill banging on the window or to look over and realize that she has eaten part of the crayon she was supposed to be coloring with.  I promise we watch our daughter.  Today I was putting groceries away and looked over to find that Addie had started climbing up some drawers to reach the treat cupboard.  It must have seemed much more efficient to her than standing in front of the treat cupboard whining
when she has a mean mom that only gives her fruit or something.

I have just been working like usual, throwing in the occasional game of tennis, and a semi-failed attempt at the driving range with a toddler.  My free time usually consists of mindless tv but shopping sometimes sneaks in there (shopping in Logan is pretty rough) and I've been vowing to finish Addie's first year scrapbook for a few months now.  Eventually it will happen.  I got a calling in the ward, I work with the Laurels in Young Womens.  I think its karma for all the grief I caused Young Women leaders.  For all the lessons they taught that I ignored and all the activities that I ditched out on.  Its great though and its been a lot of fun so far.

Trevin has been busy finishing up mowing for the summer, he has been staying home more with Addie and doing translating for Utah State.  Addie now knows how to give "Knuckles" and make car noises.  His interview at Texas went great and he still has 3 more interviews coming up in the next month or so.  Arizona, Iowa and Pennsylvania.  Since football season started he couldn't be happier with his Cougars and Broncos.

Anyways this blog is titled "Curveballs" for a reason.  Its probably kinda deep so this is your clue to stop reading if you aren't into that.  I'm a planner and am generally prepared and organized, some people called it intense or uptight but my mother-in-law calls it perfect.  She and I are both perfect.  Anyways this perfectionism has led me to plan out my life from the time I met Trevin until we are settled down in a white picket fence house with 3.5 kids.  The first year or so things worked out perfectly as planned.  After that things started to not go the way I had imagined.  Lately we had more of our plan go haywire which has really got me thinking.  Its a pretty cheesy metaphor but it's been working for me....

I am always ready and expecting life to throw me straight fastballs.  I wind up and swing at them as hard as I can.  Sometimes it wasn't a fastball thought but it was a curveball and I swung so hard that I fell down.  At least I swung as hard as I could and will just get back up.  You end up brushing off a lot of dirt but its fine, when you hit a homer it feels so great that  I'll just keep swinging.

And...stop planning so much! I'm not ready for a white picket fence or 3.5 kids, I'm barely managing watching my newborn run through the house yelling random words she picked up on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

What Up Hollywood!

Yes, it has been awhile since I blogged.  I have probably even lost all my blog stalking friends.  Oh well, sorry guys.  Anyways life has been busy, fun, and exciting lately.  Addie is growing up so fast and really loves to talk now.  She mostly babbles but if you ask her to say a word she will usually say it.  So far her consistent vocabulary includes apple (she says this for ice cream), banana, baby, mama, dada, grandpa, outside, night night, "ooh tootles" (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse) and some other more inconsistent words: rainbow, doctor, parade, shoes, and she even said Honda tonight when we asked her too.  She loves to mimic whatever we do.  We were laughing in the car and she started fake laughing, hilarious!  Anyways we bought her some sunglasses on the 4th of July and she LOVES them.  She keeps them on especially when indoors.

Someone had a brilliant idea that Addie would like sleeping in a tent so we decided to camp out in Trevin's parent's backyard over the 4th of July.  Addie was pretty excited to run around inside of it but come bedtime she cried and cried until we took her inside and but her to bed in there.  You live and learn I guess.  At least we didn't try to go camping for reals and get stuck in the middle of nowhere with a screaming child that wouldn't go to sleep.  Count your blessings.

Although the tent was not a hit she did love the fireworks.  She kept saying, "WOW" and would grab our hands and make us point to them in the sky.  I don't think I've ever seen her sit still so long.

And she loves to swim.  The pool in Grandma's backyard is a blast!  The first time we took her to a big pool this summer she was pretty scared of it but has since gotten used to it and has so much fun.  Too bad its kind of pricey so we stick to Grandma's pool most of the time, which is fun too.

In other exciting news, Trevin got an interview at the University of North Texas for med school so he is going down there in a couple weeks.  We are so excited.  It is our first choice school so everyone cross your fingers.  I promise I will blog more often so you will all blog stalk us more often too.
